So what is large-scale working?
- Increased collaboration is a must in so many contexts today.
Sharing ideas; removing barriers to working effectively together;
optimising the use of resources; fanning the flames of creativity,
all require it. To genuinely engage complex groups of people in
meaningful dialogue and interactive working, there are a growing
number of ‘large group’ or ‘whole system’
methodologies. (For an understanding of the key approaches please
see the references below and our section on practices).
- ‘Large scale’ refers to an ability to work with
many hundreds or several thousand people in one place at one time
and to influence the whole organisation or community. The same
methodologies and processes can also be used with smaller groups.
So Wikima work with leadership teams of five and whole organisations
and communities of many thousands.
- Those included in any one piece of work will be the ‘whole
system’ affected by, caring about or influencing the issue
at hand: sometimes everyone will be physically present and sometimes
a representative cross-section will take part. People from across
the system also form a Design Team to co-create the event or programme
with the ‘whole system’ in mind: in this way, the
work begins immediately, building ownership and momentum for change.
- The issues that can be handled effectively in this way are
enormously varied. For a taste of what’s possible, please
see what we do and projects – to see some of the issues
we’ve already addressed in large scale. If you don’t
see your own concerns there, give us a call and we’ll be
happy to talk through whether a large scale approach might work
for your particular situation.
