Making it real – a note

Are we serious about the kinds of changes we so often apparently long for and that our organisations honestly need to survive and thrive?

Making it Real is about being the whole magnificent human beings that we are – mind, body, spirit, emotions. Yes – and balancing the ‘being’ and the ‘doing’.

Making it Real is about being whole organisations and communities - that value, respect and involve all the people in a spirit of collaboration and partnership. No more pretending that humans in organisations will function healthily and effectively when treated in practice no better than cogs in a machine.

Making it Real is about living our (individual and organisation) principles, values and agreements. Not posting on the wall a ‘motherhood and apple pie’ Mission Statement that no-one can remember.

Making it Real is about acknowledging what we really want and going for it 100% - remembering also to let go of any expectations along the way.

Making it Real is about singing and dancing together when we achieve something great; shedding a tear and moving on when we get a major disappointment.

Making it Real is about much, much more. Stuff we’d like to share with you. If you’d like to see how we apply Making it Real to the needs such as visioning, genuine engagement, partnership and commitment, please see Making it Real – in practice.

In Wikima we believe in Making it Real, and will do our best to support you in being real. Together nurturing real conversations, between real people, to create organisations and communities which make a real difference.

By the way, here is a song that we love to sing. It’s called Make It Real, written and sung by Jan Garratt on her album Don’t Go Back to Sleep.

You can hear a clip here

Make it Real

In the beginning, all you’ve got is the dream
All you’ve got is a feeling that wants to be free
But how does it happen, how does it come to be?
What is the secret, and where is the key?
You’ve got the vision, but how do you make a start?
You’ve got to listen close, and follow your heart.

You’ve got to make it real
You’ve got to let it happen
There ain’t nobody else gonna make your dreams come true
Just let the love shine through
And do what you really feel
You’ve got to want it, you’ve got to make it real.

Now, sometimes you get discouraged
You’ve been working night and day
And you know that if you push too hard you might drive your dreams
away
The truth is it’s mostly magic
But you’ve got to do your part
You’ve got to listen close, and follow your heart.

You’ve got to make it real
You’ve got to let it happen
There ain’t nobody else gonna make your dreams come true
(No one but you)
Just let the love shine through…and do what you really feel
You’ve got to want it, you’ve got to make it real…

In the beginning, all you’ve got is the dream.

written & sung by Jan Garrett from the album Don’t Go Back to Sleep, 1992
